Shubman Gill Finds Himself Under the Spotlight as Ravi Shastri, Former Coach, Sounds a Warning
The pressure is mounting on the young cricketer, Shubman Gill, whose recent performances in the ongoing Test series have raised concerns. Former players are offering critiques, with Ravi Shastri, Team India’s ex-coach, being the latest to share a cautionary message with Gill.
As a commentator for the second Test in Vizag, Ravi Shastri discussed Gill’s struggles in the match that unfolded on Friday, where Gill managed to notch 34 runs against England.
“Team India is banking on the youth, and the young players need to prove their mettle. Let’s not forget, Pujara is patiently waiting. He consistently piles on runs in the Ranji Trophy, always prepared for the call,” remarked Ravi Shastri. Expressing his concern, he pointed out that despite the opportunities given, Gill is yet to make the most of them. Shastri emphasized the significance of meticulous shot selection for Gill to play longer innings.
Meanwhile, Cheteshwar Pujara, presently representing Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy, is showcasing stellar form with the bat. His recent unbeaten innings of 243 runs against Jharkhand highlights his batting prowess. Pujara’s consistent performances include scores of 49 and 43 against Haryana, 43 and 66 against Vidarbha, and 91 against the Services team. Having been away from Team India for almost eight months, Pujara last played for the team in the World Test Championship final last year. The looming presence of Pujara adds an extra layer of challenge for Gill, urging him to elevate his game.
